Celloglazing - Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the common
questions asked about celloglazing - the basics...
1. Why Celloglaze?
To give printed matter a high quality effect (including colour
enhancement and image contrast) and/or to protect and preserve the
media from moisture, and creasing, stains, smudges that may occur
through frequent handling;
Celloglazing is usually quick and easy with immediate results, and
is relatively inexpensive.
2. What items can be celloglazed?
Celloglazing is most popular for book covers, company brochures,
presentation folders, and business cards, gift cards, postcards etc.
3. What celloglaze films are
available through Celloglazing.com?

adhesion, especially on digitally printed material.
9325 Gloss (Offset)

Brilliant clear finish. For non porous stock with high clarity. For
dust jackets, books, pocket folders, labels, brochures, postcards,
gift bags.
8700 Matt (Offset) Celloglaze.
Thickness: 28 micron
Construction/Film Description: Non
reflective, matte finish film.
Characteristics & Applications:
Extremely well suitable for further finishing like spot, UV varnish
and embossing stamping. Excellent for book covers pocket folders,
packaging and brochures.
4. What are the main film
“finishes”?
Gloss - a very shiny / glossy
surface (highlights colours and makes your materials pop);
Matt - aimed at achieving a very flat look, often with a silky feel
(often mutes colours);
5. What are the standard film
sizes used by Celloglazing.com?
The rolls of Celloglaze film used by Celloglazing.com are 310mm wide
& 445mm wide and come in lengths of 1,000m , 2,000m & 3,000m (on 76mm core);
6. What are the standard Page Sizes
Celloglazed by Celloglazing.com?
Celloglazing.com provide celloglazing service on paper sizes from
SRA3 to oversize A2 (130gsm to 350gsm);
7. How should my page be supplied
for celloglazing?
When supplying pages for celloglazing, there should be a 10mm grip
area on all sides of the page to allow the celloglazing machines to
provide an optimal finish. The process of celloglazing applies
the celloglaze film to the pages within the borders
of a page, which will be fully finished (trimmed, scored etc) after
the celloglazing process (see diagram below);

Each individual job should be supplied with 10 over sheets of the
same size & weight paper as the celloglazing process does have some
attrition at the start & end of each run;
Please note: The process of celloglazing involves heat, pressure and
glue. Whilst exercising every care in completing your job we can not
be held responsible for damage to originals or copies.
8. Why does Celloglazing.com want
to know the make & model of the printer used to produce the
materials being celloglazed?
The make & model of the printer used to produce the printed material
will have an impact on the type of film used during the celloglazing
process. Some printers are oil based and these types of
printers require the use of Digital
Celloglaze films;
If the wrong film type is selected, the celloglaze may peel off the
pages of the job after the celloglaze process.
9. Why doesn't
Celloglazing.com use Digital Celloglaze
for all jobs?
There are cost variations in the different celloglaze film types
(the digital films are more costly than the offset films) and to
ensure we offer the best price, we match film types to celloglazing
jobs based on the type of printer used to produce the materials
being celloglazed.
10. Why does Celloglazing.com
ask for over's?
The process of celloglazing involves heat, pressure and glue. Whilst
exercising every care in completing your job there is generally some
wastage involved in the production setup of a job.
Celloglazing.com does not charge our customers for spoiled
sheets in the job run. Our charge model is based on the final
yield of successfully celloglazed materials returned to you.
11. How is film thickness measured?
Film thickness, or gauge, is
measured in microns (or μm). There are 1000 microns (or μm) to a
millimetre.
The Digital Films used by
Celloglazing.com are 40, 42.5 & 43 microns whilst Offset films are 26 micron &
28 micron.
